Course Overview +
This qualification reflects the role of cooks who use a wide range of well-developed cookery skills and sound knowledge of kitchen operations to prepare food and menu items. Using discretion and judgement, they work with some independence and under limited supervision using plans, policies and procedures to guide work activities.
Completion of this qualification contributes to recognition as a trade cook.
This qualification provides a pathway to work as a cook in organizations such as restaurants, hotels, clubs, pubs, cafes, and coffee shops.

Entry Requirements +
To apply for the Certificate III in Commercial Cookery at Montford International College, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Be at least 18 years of age.
- Have completed Year 11 or equivalent.
- Complete an online application form.
- Have an IELTS Academic overall score of 6.0, or a PTE Academic overall score of 47 (for PTE tests taken on or after 07/08/2025). Test results must be no more than 2 years old.
- English language competence can also be demonstrated through documented evidence of any of the following:
- The student has successfully completed a foundation course in Australia.
- The student has successfully completed at least 6 months of a Certificate IV level course at an Australian RTO.
- The student has been educated in an English-speaking country for at least 5 years.
- Successful completion of an LLND (Language, Literacy, Numeracy and Digital) test.
- Participate in activities to assess suitability for the course and student needs, as required.
Note: Other English language tests such as PTE and TOEFL may be accepted, provided the results are equivalent to an IELTS 6.0. Montford International College offers the VET English Placement Test for prospective international students from Assessment level 1 and 2 countries. The test evaluates intermediate-level writing, grammar and reading skills. These assessments are free of charge and must be taken prior to commencing your studies. Your authorised Montford International College Education Agent will oversee the testing process. Please be aware that test results cannot be used as official evidence of language proficiency.

After a student’s enrolment application is accepted, they will receive:
